The
Grinding machine factory in Gyumri, Once very active and
prominent, was destroyed by the earthquake in 1988. The
Beautiful facade of the Structure that survived the
quake has been integrated into a new building both to
conserve its heritage and keep its national character;
The complex with diverse facilities – a hotel,
restaurants and commercial shops includes the Kohar
Music school for gifted students and is home to a
symphony orchestra, a choir and a popular instrumental
ensemble. The construction and renovation project
generated employment for many locals since its
commencement in 1997.
The
project was initiated by the Khatchodourian family of
Lebanon, who in addition to providing economic
assistance, needed to receive good news from the
earthquake stricken zone. Thus they proposed a concert
tour for the kohar Symphony and Choir which Captivated
and overwhelmed the audiences in Cyprus, Lebanon and
Armenia in June 2002. |
